1. Scope

This Corrections Policy applies to the news stories, blog posts, magazine issues, city guide, event pages and place pages that the editorial team publishes on the duzcepte.com website and in the mobile app of Düzcepte, operated by the Düzcepte team. User content shared by residents is governed by the Community Guidelines and the complaints process, not by this policy. Content imported from other sites' news feeds is the work of those sites; an error in it is corrected at the source, and we either reflect the text the source corrected or take the content down.

2. What counts as an error

A wrong fact in a piece (a name, date, time, place, number or title), a misquoted statement, an omission that misleads the reader, a wrongly matched photograph or a difference in a translation that changes the meaning counts as an error. Corrections that do not change the meaning, such as spelling and punctuation, are made too but are not announced separately. A comment in an opinion piece is treated as an error only when the fact it rests on is wrong.

Information that was correct when published but has changed since (an event moved to another time, an institution moved to a new address) is an update, not an error. Updates are worked into the text and the page's update date changes; where readers could be misled, the text also says what changed.

3. How to report an error

If you have noticed an error you can write to destek@duzcepte.com or reach us through destek@duzcepte.com. Including the link to the piece, the information you believe is wrong and a source showing the correct information speeds up the review. You do not need an account to report an error. We use your name and contact details only to reply to your report.

4. Review

Every report is read by the editorial team. The team compares the reported information with the source the piece relied on and, where necessary, with the institution concerned. As a rule a first reply is given within two working days; if the review will take longer, the person who reported it is told so. A clear factual error is corrected as soon as it is confirmed; the correction does not wait for the report to be closed.

During the review, the person who reported the error may be asked for further information or documents. If the reported information cannot be verified, the piece is not changed and the person is told why. Several reports about the same piece are considered together. A member of the editorial team does not close a report about their own piece alone; the decision is made together with another member of the team.

5. How a correction is shown

When an error is confirmed the piece is corrected at the same address; its link does not change. Every correction that affects the meaning adds a Correction note at the end of the text explaining what was corrected and when. The page shows the date the piece was last updated, and the same date is reported to search engines. An error in a headline is corrected in the headline, and the old headline is quoted in the correction note. No note is added for spelling and punctuation fixes alone.

Corrections to the address, times, prices and contact details on event, place and business pages are reflected on the page immediately; no separate correction note is added on these pages, and the page's update date changes. For events imported from ticketing sites, information corrected at the source reaches us with the next import.

If a piece has an English or Russian version, the correction is carried over to those versions too. Once the Turkish text has been corrected, a translation that has not been reviewed again is withdrawn and the Turkish version is shown in its place; the translation is published again once it has been updated.

6. Taking content down

As a rule, pieces are corrected rather than deleted, so that readers can see what changed. If a piece is taken down because it turns out to be unlawful, to seriously infringe someone's rights or to be largely wrong, the decision is made by the editorial team and the page tells search engines that it has been removed permanently. Decisions of courts and competent authorities are complied with.

7. Right of reply and correction

A person who believes that a piece contains untrue information about them or attacks their personal rights may send a reply and correction text to destek@duzcepte.com. If the text is proportionate to the piece and contains no insults, it is published without delay below the piece or linked to it. Using this right does not take away a person's right to seek legal remedies.

8. The city guide

The information in the city guide is read again section by section at set intervals, and every figure is given with its source. When an error in the guide is reported, the section concerned is corrected and its review date is renewed. A section whose review is overdue is taken off the guide until it has been read again.

When a more recent official source for a figure in the guide is published, for example when a new year's population results are announced, the figure is updated together with its source and year. The old figure is not an error; it is renewed because a new source has been published.

9. Records and transparency

The editorial team keeps a record of corrections that affect the meaning. The record is used to review the team's working methods so that errors of the same kind are not repeated. The principles behind correction and takedown decisions are set out in the Publishing Principles.

Reports from our readers are among the most valuable sources for the accuracy of our content. The identity of people who report errors is not disclosed in a correction note or anywhere else unless they wish it.
